Dear Parents,

Today children heard the story of the Ten Best Ways to Live from Exodus 19-20 and Deuteronomy 6:4-6. The children learned that after God led the people of God through the water to freedom, they were free to go any way they wanted…but they didn’t know what was the best way to go. So God spoke to Moses on top of Mount Sinai and told Moses the Ten Best Ways to Live, which Moses then shared with the people of God. There were four best ways for loving God and six best ways for loving people. The children learned that God gave Moses, the people of God, and us the Ten Best Ways to Live because God loves us.

As a response to the story, children were encouraged to reflect on one of three things from the story: how they love God, how they love people, or how God loves them with the materials that were provided for them. The goal in doing this was for the children to understand that the Ten Best Ways to Live are really all about love. To help your children understand this, I hope that you will ask them some of the following questions: show me how you responded to God’s word today. I wonder if it is hard to love God and love people? I wonder what are some ways to love God and love people? I wonder how we know that God loves us?

As always, if you would like to learn more about the program or have any questions about something in this letter, I would be pleased to talk with you.

Thank you,

This Month: Children will hear the stories of “The Birth of Isaac” from Genesis 18:1-15 & 12:1-8, and “How the Church Tells Time” from Leviticus 23:1-3. Please note that there will be NO Sunday school on November 25th ~ Happy Thanksgiving!!! Please join us in our regular worship services that weekend.

p.s. The Sunday school offerings for the month of November will be put to very special use! The money your child gives to the church as offering each week will be used to provide Christmas gifts to a local child in need this holiday season. All gifts will be purchased, then presented to BABES on behalf of the Sunday school classes at First United Methodis Church. I look forward to your help in making this holiday memorable for a local, disadvantaged child!
