November 4th, 2007

Dear Parents,

Welcome to our third unit of this program! This month your second, third, fourth, or fifth grader will rotate between three workshops that center around the same Biblical story. Our next unit began today, and is called “How The Bible Came To Be”. The focus of this unit is on how the Bible has been written by many different people over a long period of time. Children will learn how the Bible has been preserved and translated into many different languages so that it is now available to people all around the world.

The main objectives of this unit are to discover the importance of knowing God’s laws and trying to show God’s love to others through our actions. Children will rotate through music, games, and drama workshops to learn this idea. This rotation will go through Sunday, November 18th. Please note that there will be NO Sunday school on November 25th! On Sunday, December 2nd, your second, third, fourth, or fifth grader will start a new rotation which will focus on Christmas Around the World. The following is a schedule of where your child should go for this rotation:

No Sunday School ~ Happy Thanksgiving!

Please remember that children are to go directly to their classrooms after the 9:00am & 10:30am children’s sermon. In this way, the second, third, fourth, and fifth graders will have more time to be in their classrooms learning about and responding to God’s word without having to feel rushed. Also, please remind your child to bring his/her Bible to class each week if possible. Encourage your child to make notes or highlight in his/her Bible as he/she learns the stories. I also encourage you to talk with your child about what he/she did in class each week. What did your child like or dislike about the activity he/she did? What did he/she learn from class? What did your child learn about this unit that he/she can use in today’s world?

As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you have. I am available at church during the day (734-2677 or jgeurts@appfumc.org). I look forward to working with you to help your child grow in his/her understanding of and love for God.

Sincerely,

Jill Geurts

P.S. The Sunday school offerings for the month of November will be put to very special use! The money your child gives to the church as offering each week will be used to provide Christmas gifts to a local child in need this holiday season. All gifts will be purchased, then presented to BABES on behalf of the Sunday school classes at First United Methodist Church. I look forward to your help in making this holiday memorable for a local, disadvantaged child!
