Adult Education Fall Classes

 

 

Theology on Tap

Want to talk about topics relating to God, but want to do it in a relaxed setting? Come to Theology on Tap! We meet once a month during the week after work at one of the establishments in the Fox Valley. Participants can drink alcoholic or nonalcoholic drinks and choose whether or not they want to get food as well. Join us: October 24th, and November 21st, all from 6:00-8: 00 p.m.

 

Financial Education with Russell Bold

Have questions about your retirement fund? Don’t understand what steps to take next financially in life? Any questions or conversation is welcomed with no pressure. Feel free to sit down with Russell the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month in the Conference Room at 10:00 a.m. starting September 22nd.

 

Sunday Bible Study-“The Story”

The Bible is hard to understand, and often we don’t really understand when things happen. Join us as we go through the Bible chronologically with “The Story”. The whole study is 31 weeks but will be broken up into segments. Books cost $12. We started September 15th at 10:30 a.m. in Asbury Lounge, but all are welcome to join at any time.

 

Sunday Bible Study- The Parables of Jesus

Learn more about what the parables Jesus told mean in this 12-week class led by Wendy Anzelmo. This class focuses on what the parables tell us about the Kingdom of Heaven. The class will be using their own Bibles and a supplement ($4) and started last Sunday, September 15th at 10:30 a.m. in Wesley Room. It’s not too late to join us.

 

Theology on Mondays

“Thank God for Evolution: How the Marriage of Science and Religion Will Transform Your Life and Our World” by Michael Dowd will be the subject of conversation at Theology on Mondays, for those who like to examine progressive theology, which started on September 16th. Each discussion is from 10:00 a.m.-noon on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Mondays in the Wesley Room. Books cost $15.

 

Recipe Exchange

Enjoy time sharing recipes? Join Mary Larkin and the ladies connected with First Church as we enjoy each other’s recipes and even some treats as well. This group meets every second Monday of the month through November, noon- 1:00 p.m. in the Youth Lounge

 

Women of the Word

On Mondays at 7:00 p.m. in Wesley Room we will dig into a six-week study, “Messy People: Life Lessons from Imperfect Biblical Heroes” by Jennifer Cowart which examines the lives of biblical heroes who were messy people just like us but who were used by God in powerful ways. Books cost $13 and can be ordered from the church office.

 

Tuesday Book Study

Please join us for a book discussion on Tuesdays from 1:00-2: 30 p.m. in the Conference Room which began Tuesday, Sept. 10th of Sister Joan Chittister’s latest book “The Time is Now: A Call to Uncommon Courage”. For 40 years, Sister Joan has passionately advocated on behalf of peace, human rights, women’s issues, and church renewal. Books are $14 through the church office

 

Wednesday Book Study

Join us Wednesdays from 11:15 a.m.-12: 30 p.m. in the Asbury Lounge which started September 18th for a study of culture and faith through “To Kill a Mockingbird.” Linda Farina and Pastor Liz will be leading us through Harper Lee’s classic as a way to examine questions and issues of the Christian faith and open our eyes to the spiritual truths that are all around us. Books are $6 through the church office.

 

Blessings of Aging

Regret, Fear, Time; Joy; Transformation...some of the topics presented in this course developed by Sister Joan Chittister, Aging is an exciting time! Based on her book, The Gift of Years, although reading the book is not necessary. Following our study of “To Kill A Mockingbird”, join the Wednesday Study Group October 30th to November 20th from 11:15 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in the Asbury Lounge.

 

Alpha Study: Introduction to Christianity

Feel like you don’t really understand what it means to be a Christian? You are not alone. Be a part of the Alpha Study as we look at questions like: Why and how should I read my Bible? and Who is Jesus? Our study lasts 15 weeks, but we will be splitting it up to make it more manageable. The first segment started Wednesday, September 18th, but all are welcome to join at any time from 6:00-7: 00 p.m. in Conference Room. No book is needed.

 

Men’s Thursday Noon Bible Study

Join the Men’s Study for “Mark Revisited: a continuation of discovering how the Gospel of Mark speaks into a Modern Man’s Life.” Men meet in the Wesley Room from noon-1 p.m. on Thursdays. No book needed.

 

Women’s Thursday Noon Bible Study

Our women’s group this year will be focusing on the Gospel of John. This gospel is known for its theological depth, and we are looking at one area, in particular, light. So join us Thursdays at noon in the Conference Room for “The Light in Our Lives: Seeing God in the Gospel of John.” No book is needed.

 

Movie Nights in The Chapel

Join Amy Concepción on Wednesday, October 16th at 6:00 p.m. to watch a Christian-based movie in the Chapel. Popcorn and water will be provided.
